Platelet-rich plasma therapy, also known as PRP, is a hair loss treatment that uses a person’s own plasma to help regrow hair. The procedure is most effective for people who have just started to notice hair loss and those who have androgenetic alopecia, a condition of thinning hair on the crown of the scalp.

What to expect at your visit:
After determining that you are a good candidate for the procedure, your blood will be drawn. It is then placed in a centrifuge, spun, and separated to obtain the platelet-rich-plasma. Your scalp will be numbed with a topical numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable. Multiple injections with a tiny needle are done in the thinning areas. Expect to be in the office for approximately 45-60 minutes.
After the procedure:
There is no downtime, though some patients have redness and minimal swelling for one or two days afterwards.
You’ll see results three to six months after the initial treatment, and improvement continues for up to one year. Follow-up treatments are recommended every 12-18 months to maintain results.
